Traditional Amaretti Recipe

Prepare traditional crunchy and sweet amaretti cookies with almonds, sugar, and egg whites. Add a touch of originality by inserting a chocolate heart or flavoring with vanilla or grated orange zest. Serve them with coffee or as an afternoon tea treat.

  • Start by finely grinding the almonds in a food processor with some of the sugar. To obtain a fine almond flour, sift the mixture and repeat the process if necessary.
  • Combine the rest of the sugar with the almond flour and mix well.
  • Whip the egg whites to stiff peaks with a pinch of salt and gently fold them into the almond and sugar mixture, being careful not to deflate them.
  • Form balls with a diameter of 4-5 centimeters from the obtained mixture.
  • Roll the balls in a mixture of flour and sugar, then place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for about 15 minutes or until the amaretti are lightly golden.

Notes

To add an original touch to the recipe, you can insert a soft dark chocolate heart inside the balls before baking or flavor the dough with a few drops of natural vanilla extract or grated orange zest for an even more intense flavor.
